Illinois Solar for All (Community Solar)
In 2019, Trajectory united a strong coalition of community members, including local environmental organizations, religious leaders, nonprofits, and unions. We collaborated with the city to identify land that was not suitable for development and apply for a Renewable Energy Credit (REC) award from the Illinois Solar for All program. This means residents who meet specific income requirements, of which Rockford has a large population, can get significant savings on their utility bills.
The process brought community leaders who hadn’t previously collaborated together, created lasting bonds, and led to collaborations on other projects in the area. Thanks to the diligent work of local building trades unions, Rockford Solar was the first of our projects to go live in 2021.
