Nexamp, the nation’s largest community solar company, has teamed up with Trajectory Energy Partners to acquire a portfolio of solar projects in Illinois. The two projects, located in Galesburg and Pekin and totaling more than 7 Megawatts of capacity, were developed under the state’s Community Driven Community Solar program. Expected to come online in 2025, the projects will serve customers in the Ameren utility area. This sale expands the total portfolio of transactions between Trajectory and Nexamp to more than 24 MW across Illinois since 2020.
Community-Driven Community Solar (CDCS) projects bring new sources of clean energy and direct benefits to local communities across the state, and create direct, long-term partnerships within their host communities. These benefits include community wealth building and direct community engagement in the development process, including by nonprofits and public entities. With a service area much smaller than traditional community solar projects, community-driven community solar projects are highly responsive to the host community’s needs.
“Trajectory is dedicated to creating solar projects that drive local economic growth and clean energy solutions through Illinois,” said Josh Bushinsky, Partner at Trajectory. “Over the past three years Trajectory and Nexamp have partnered on solar projects that bring solar savings to low-income families, support public schools, and directly benefit our local host communities. Trajectory and Nexamp share a commitment to delivering high-quality clean energy development that benefits Illinois, and we’re leveraging our combined expertise to make good on that commitment.”
“Community solar continues to showcase its strength and versatility as one the most impactful tools for addressing our country’s most critical energy and equity policy objectives simultaneously, and Illinois is showing the way,” added John Murphy, Chief Strategy Officer, Nexamp. “Our collaboration with talented and like-minded development partners such as Trajectory helps Nexamp accelerate our clean energy deployment goals and deliver on our mission to make economic and environmental benefits of solar more widely accessible.”
Nexamp will construct, own, and operate these projects. Nexamp and Trajectory also will continue to work with key development partners such as the Knox County Area Partnership and the City of Pekin. These local partners were instrumental in the early stages of these projects, advocating for and within their communities to bring these community-first projects home. Through our continued work, groups like these will help ensure that the benefits from these projects make the maximum impact in their host communities.
