Community Solar
Over 50 years ago, the Lacon Cemetary Association had 20 acres of farmland donated to them to help expand the community cemetery. After some consideration, the cemetery association found that they would not need to use this land for some time and instead looked at ways to make additional revenue from the land. The cemetery association found that leasing their land for solar would be the best use for the land. They connected with Trajectory, who they had heard of through other landowners and our work in the community.
Our outreach paid off at the County Zoning Board of Appeals hearing, as supporters filled the room to testify in favor of the project. Lacon Solar was only possible because of Trajectory’s collaboration with Lacon residents and the local Township officials. Our team negotiated a screening agreement with the project’s neighbors and secured an easement from the Lacon Township building, which was necessary for the project to be built. Marshall County supported the project, as the county will see additional property tax revenue, and residents will receive a discount on their utility bills through community solar subscriptions. Lacon Solar is currently in construction by local union labor.
